THE PLOT

The clans have a long and divided history. Long ago, about 140 moons to this current moon, the three leaders of the clans, Oakfoot, founder of Saberclan, Pounceclaw, founder of Coyoteclan and Riverrunner, founder of Eagleclan, graced the land with their paws. They got stranded on the island when they got captured from their old territories by twolegs and transported over on a boat, and when they escaped Emerald City, only the territory they occupy today seemed fitting for clan cats. When they discovered the Star Tree, which allowed them a connection to their ancestors, and looked upon the lands surrounding Star Isle, it solidified this stance, and they set about establishing respective territories for their future clans. They wouldn't roll over and die because of this, they needed to survive. But they could hardly stand each other, since they originated from different clans in their homeland.
The only issue with the Star Tree is that it didn't Just connect them to Stellarclan, it also connected them to a foreign ancestor group. These cats gave them no name when the clanners visited the Star Tree, so they began to refer to them as Lunarclan. Lunarclan had shallow ties with Stellarclan. They were mostly made up of deceased Rogues and Loners with a vague sense of unity, but that doesn't mean they were very keen on the clanners and their ancestors overtaking the island. However, the clans were already being established, and their decendents were mostly within the city across the range by now, so there was little
Lunarclan could do about it. Slowly, the two ancestor clans made peace, and by the clans were fully established and functioning, they had melded into Stellarclan as cats see it today.
Before that was fully completed, however, the first leaders had to establish themselves and divide their territories. It would be a long and arduous task, but the leaders had to do it if they had any hope of both surviving and passing down their heritages.
Oakfoot, a large cinnamon brown tom with yellow eyes, was the first to establish his territory, claiming that it was obvious that his clan should get the evergreen territory. This plan backfired on him almost immediately, however, because it left Saberclan with the least amount of territory in the beginning.
Pounceclaw, a blue shecat with striking emerald green eyes, was the next to claim her territory for her future clan, staking a claim to the nearly seperated lands with multicolored trees, and leaving the other two almost immediately to explore and establish her own camp.
Finally, the mostly passive Riverrunner, a medium sized tom with sleek orange tabby fur and silver eyes, ended up with the largest territory of the three, which he retreated to as quickly as he could, before the other two noticed.
With borders and territories established, they set about making camps and making sure their territories were safe. But for that, they'd need clanmates. Unfortunately for their purity-filled ways, they would need to recruit cats from Emerald City, and the surrounding sparce forests. There wasn't much other than predators and small prey animals living in their territories, which would make establishment difficult.
It took the three moons to build up enough numbers to actually be considered clans, instead of ragged bands of rogues hissing at each other from their respective corners of the map, but the second Saberclan had the numbers, they went to battle over a stretch of land called Green Hills. They needed more territory, and seeing as the land was far from Eagleclan's camp, Oakstar figured it would be easy enough to secure the border further inland. He was correct, however, the land was also far away from his own camp, so keeping that new border established became a problem. From then on, the Green Hills was a highly contested stretch of land. But while Oakstar and Riverstar were busy skirmishing over the Green Hills, Pouncestar quietly moved her own border further into Eagleclan's territory, effectively evening out the amounf of territory each clan had, as long as Saberclan could hold the border at the Green Hills.
The clans were peaceful but not friendly at gatherings on Star Isle, and things were particularly spiky between them over territory disputes. Pouncestar and Oakstar claimed it was fair how it was, while Riverstar was adament that if they had wanted the land they stole, they had been free to speak up about it when they were choosing territory, instead of stealing it later on. He also pointed out that Oakstar's cats were clumsy and useless out in the open, so the territory wouldn't be of much help anyway, but he eventually conceided. A tense truce was put up, on the grounds that the clans were evened out, but only because it happened to be two against one in the matter. Eagleclan was never fully alright with the loss of the Green Hills to Oakstar, or the part of the Yellow Forest that was taken by Pouncestar, however, and it's been a point of terse contention ever since then.
The second generation of leaders, Ivystar of Saberclan, Tigerstar of Coyoteclan, and Rapidstar of Eagleclan, weren't as amicable. Going so far as to skip gatherings due to the constant wars the clans fought during their reigns. Each wanted to control the whole island, and sought resources outside their own borders by war rather than peace. Ivystar coveted the catnip that grew plentifully in Coyoteclan's Flower Forest, and fought viciously for control over the region, while Eagleclan amped up attacks to take back Green Hills. Tigerstar attacked on both fronts, stating that if they just fell under his leadership, they could have any and all resources. The constant battling and wars dropped the population of the clans signifigantly again, and was the cause of many deaths within everyone's ranks. At some point, Rapidstar recruited rogues to fight for her, which caused Tigerstar and Ivystar to team up and defend themselves.
It was a truly trying time for everyone involved, and is not remembered fondly by any of the current clan members. That time, or the Great War, is often something the current leaders reflect on as something that cannot be allowed to happen again. The Great War was the latest large event, and new history is on the brink of being made, now that new cats have come to the clans, and they are settling back into their own territories and lifestyles. The current leaders have to think about clan numbers and how to tackle the mystery prophecy being slowly revealed by Stellarclan, so they have no time for interpersonal conflict anymore.
