Two distant canary optics shifted from side to side, a soft exhale escaping the tomcat's nasal passages. Alderstar engulfed the lump developing in his trachea with a shake of his crania, regarding the undesirable introspections washing over his brain. The youthful leader frequently mourned, suffering the loss of his parents by day to Silverpelt, where the lost warriors illuminated overhead. He continually counted the stars by twilight, wondering how his parents had been doing. He acknowledged there was an Afterlife, longing to revisit them someday. However, he persuaded himself to propel onwards and stride toward the utmost success. The bachelor hoped to be a notable leader for his courteousness, strength, and priority toward CoyoteClan. Alderstar occasionally doubted himself during this leadership, as he wasn't as experienced as others who thrived within CoyoteClan. StellarClan specifically chose him, and he still couldn't pinpoint why. The persistent inquiry flooded his cranial, followed by similar queries. Nonetheless, Alderstar devoted his life to the Clan; whether it meant costing one of his lives or not, he'd do whatever it took to protect them. It was nighttime when Alderstar withdrew from Camp to allow himself to ponder, visage occasionally peering toward Silverpelt as he crossed through his Clan's territory.

The gargantuan lilac-diluted sire discovered himself at The Green River, his ardent chasms scrutinizing across the perimeter, the aroma of an EagleClanner wafting in his direction, brought by the zephyr. Alderstar's heart plunged to the bottom of his solar plexus, praying it wasn't an aggressive feline. Unfortunately, he was in no mood for a skirmish or an argument. Alderstar wasn't familiar with anyone in EagleClan, expecting a border patrol, but hopefully a singular warrior. Thankfully, an individual scent lingered, and he deemed the EagleClanner a she-cat. As he stood on the riverbank, he huffed, Drowning seems excessively relentless. Alderstar had a profound, overwhelming apprehension of being submerged beneath the surface; though he was a moderately respectable swimmer, the reflection persisted in concerning him. Alderstar gazed toward the gloomy abysm, the sky, watching as clouds folded over numerous stars. Please don't storm, not now. He could feel the humidity ascending by the hour, feeling like a storm was coming later in the night. The pure gloaming of the night was his comfort, the blanket of distinguished velvet that preserved his sentiments. The uncorrupted black constructs the moon so beautifully, a smile casting amongst his countenance. The refined atramentous coloration of the twilight provided Silverpelt's magnificence, and in it, Alderstar's heart was safe and his soul serene.

Alderstar trod on, closing in on the EagleClan and CoyoteClan border; a few moments passed, the scent coming closer and closer. Alderstar's claws unsheathed, gripping the soft terrain beneath them. Who are you... A scowl plastered on his facade, awaiting the appearance of whoever it was. The mademoiselle's silhouette was slowly bounding closer, followed by Alderstar meandering closer. Before him, the shadowy figure strayed in the moonlight, his visage softening as he realized she meant zero harm. Her demeanor was similar to his own. "May I ask what you're doing here?" His delicate, husky vocalizations uttered, evident that he intended no damage himself. He might've been extraordinarily defensive over his Clan, but it depended on the circumstances and who he was against. "Ah, apologies for no introduction. How rude of me..." Alderstar chuckled sheepishly, partially disappointed that he wouldn't be alone. But perhaps he'd enjoy the company; he never really knew. "I am Alderstar, leader of CoyoteClan. A pleasure to meet you, but why are you out here by your lonesome?" He inquired, crania tilting slightly to the left in question. He had a sweet soul, and there was no need for an injury.

dapplecreek, the gentle

Though the first signs of Greenleaf, like the songbirds and blossoms, made most clanmates feel relief from the claws of Leafbare, dread filled the heart of the molly. Greenleaf brought Greencough...which brought death. The death of her children and parents were hard, but the ache of losing both her mentor and brother in one swoop brought a different kind of pain.

Lavender. One of the herbs used to prepare the dead for their ascend to Silverpelt, was also the same herb that her mentor loved to stuff his nest with. Lavender is a herb of calming abilities, some of which I'd love to stuff under Sootnose's bedding. he'd always tease. The memory of Quailchirp's smiling face made Dapplecreek's heart sink. Today had marked the anniversary of their deaths. Pausing with the mouthful of lavender flowers, her maw parted slightly. One by one the stems of the flowers dropped from her jaws. A single tear parted from the molly's eyelid, streaking down her cheek and to the ground below.

It's been moons, she pondered, so why do the wounds feel so fresh? A voice broke her train of thoughts, making Dapplecreek bristle and quickly turn towards the border. Lips parting, the she-cat stared at the massive tom in front of her. Tail raised, she blinked at the tom, set back by his question. She wanted to ask why he was there. Though the border was full of stale scents of both Coyoteclan and Eagleclan, from what Dapplecreek could tell, they were alone.

Before she had a chance to speak, the tom spoke again. Ah, yes. I recognize him from the gatherings. The mighty Alderstar. Though the she-cat knew little of the leader, she did notice he kept to himself mostly, besides the formalities of sharing tongues with his fellow leaders. Sitting on her hunches, she licked her chest, a bit embarrassed by her lack of awareness of her surroundings and wiping the wetness from her cheek. Wrapping her dilute tail around her paws, she gazed up at the tom with curious, green eyes. "I am Dapplecreek, a warrior from Eagleclan," she meowed, dipping her head in respect to Alderstar. "I-I..." She began, but seemed to lose her words. Eyeing the lavender no more than a tail-length away, she lied, "I needed to clear my head for a bit."

Alderstar's canary visage scrutinized her with an intense gaze, watching as she pivoted her physique to face him. The damsel before him bore a beauteous coloration in her pelage, harboring the casual muted lilac calico pelage. The herculean tomcat observed her momentarily, awaiting an answer from the warrior. She appeared to be approximately his age, youthful as he was. Most leaders had a few more moons on them, suggesting additional experience, wisdom, and understanding of how to go about leadership. Alderstar extrapolated he'd make a great leader; he merely ought to discontinue contesting himself. Was he doing the right thing by simply talking to an EagleClanner rather than suggesting she'd leave? He knew the answer but persisted in deciding against the best option. Shortly after his question, the damsel responded, sending him into a ponder. Dapplecreek, huh? What're you doing on the border? And she says to clear her head? I wonder how sure I can be, but I am doing the same, so there's no argument here. Alderstar's monumental frame cast a looming shadow over Dapplecreek in the moonlight's luminosity. The moon peered through the clouds, which slowly dissipated in the opposing direction. Perhaps it wasn't going to storm, or it'd pass over CoyoteClan.

He inhaled softly through his nasal passages with a brisk nod, a sigh escaping via his maw. He hadn't expected Dapplecreek to dip her crania out of respect, his brain informing him that most warriors, loners, or rogues would want to get into a fight in these types of circumstances. Alderstar's maxilla departed from his mandible, "That's understandable; I came out here to do the same." He admitted. However, he was always dubious about believing that an individual meant absolutely no harm. She was by the border. He was persuading himself otherwise, disinclined to accept her articulation. Though, she did appear to be conveying the truth, which should've driven his unintentional skeptical mindset to the side. Alderstar's subsequent commentary wasn't something he'd envisioned he'd say himself. "If you don't mind me asking, Dapplecreek, why are you here to clear your head? Is something concerning you?" Alderstar questioned, vocals hushed and charming. Those words weren't excessively out of the ordinary; it was only abnormal because it wasn't a clanmate. Feeling as though his words were inconsiderate, he quickly restated, "Well, if you'd like to tell me, of course. I understand if it's confidential, as well. That was awfully impolite of me." A sheepish chuckle escaped his maw, feeling apprehension arising within him. "I suppose I'm just rude today." He murmured, merely inaudibly.

dapplecreek, the gentle

Dapplecreek's eyes widened as Alderstar looked.....almost defeated. Emotions passed over her gaze as swift as the changing skies of Newleaf. Confusion, interest, compassion, contempt. The molly met his gaze. "I suppose a clan leader has much more to worry about than some mousebrained warrior," Dapplecreek offered the tom a kind smile. "Though I hope you look to the stars for your answers, and they hear your prayers," she meowed, gaze slightly lifting to the sky above. Though she wasn't the most spiritual cat in her youth, since the passing of most of her kin, Dapplecreek placed her hope in them more each day. If her ancestors truly listened to her, would they make her suffering end soon?

The image of her sister's face materialized in her thoughts, making the fur at her tail tip bristle. Perhaps her prayers were lost to the wind. "Though I hope all is well in Coyoteclan. Whatever is on your mind, I hope it'll pass," she purred. Alderstar's throaty chuckle made Dapplecreek's smile deepen. Instead of all the poor memories that Eagleclan surrounded her with, he seemed to offer her a rare glimpse of sunshine.

"Ah, me," she breathed, "Newleaf... is a difficult season for me." Admitting it somehow didn't make Dapplecreek feel better. "You have a much better connection Stellarclan than I can ever dream," Dapplecreek continued, "but, sometimes when I can pick the same flowers that can remind me of someone who walks with them, I feel a little closer to them."

Dapplecreek gave her head a little shake, a soft giggle escaping her lips. "Ha...I probably sound like some starry-eyed kit right now."

Another soft array of laughter left the tomcat's maw, bewildered by the damsel's response. Mousebrained warrior? Alderstar jostled his crania, yellow-golden oculars closing momentarily. "I worry about everyone, and I wouldn't say you're a mouse-brain. A mouse-brained warrior would be inclined to strike." Alderstar retorted with a snort. As his visage fluttered open, he smiled gently, "I'm sure they will eventually answer; I'm not overly concerned." Alderstar remarked, his smile withered slightly, as he was immensely concerned. Though, he wasn't quite gutsy enough to explain that to the mademoiselle, considering she was technically a stranger, an outsider. She certainly wasn't a part of his clan; he ought to restrain himself. He shouldn't disclose to an EagleClanner his thoughts nor emotions; what if she was a spy? There was no knowing what EagleClan's intentions were; he wasn't officially familiar with the new leaders since the war happened relatively recently. Alderstar was primarily familiar with Rainstar regarding her courage in taking out their previous, corrupt leader. He hadn't expected to see a smile plastered amongst an EagleClanner's facade, particularly one so profound and genuine. "CoyoteClan is doing well, and I must thank StellerClan for such. I am praying Greencough sways our way, and thank you, I hope so too, Dapplecreek."

Finally, Alderstar's mind altered from the perspective of CoyoteClan, suppressing his concerns about being a new leader and constructing a successful life out of it. The molly before him had an abnormally comforting essence, bringing fresh joy to the tom. "I'm sorry to hear that; I hope you find some happiness soon." Alderstar's cranium tilted slightly, a gentle frown extending across his mandibles. He didn't take delight in seeing sorrow within others, feeling that something horrible must've happened in the past during this season for Dapplecreek. However, he didn't push the topic further. The last thing he desired to do was infuriate or distress the opposing warrior. "Well, I suppose you could say my connection with StellerClan is somewhat satisfactory." The behemoth sire offered a shrug, gazing over the mademoiselle once more. She possessed a benevolent spirit, one he couldn't help but admire. "You must mean the lavender then, huh?" He recalled when he was approaching her, watching as the lavender dropped to the terra firma beneath her foundations. He shifted his gaze to the lavender behind her, roughly a tail-length away. "No way, Dapplecreek!" He huffed in a whimsical demeanor, narrowing his visage at her briskly, "I don't mind. It's healthy to talk about these types of things. You're not a starry-eyed kit." Alderstar wasn't typically open with others, but maybe it was due to the fact this was someone outside his clan.

The alabaster and silvery tom offered another sweet simper, dipping his head scarcely to meet her gaze, "You can talk to me more if you wish. I shall escort you completely to the edge of our borders after we've concluded speaking; I'm in no rush. I relish the company." He admitted, never entirely enjoying such a thing. This was the first time.

dapplecreek, the gentle

Spoken like a true leader. The thought made Dapplecreek's cheeks tug her lips upward. Though, the tom had a point. If she were anything like Sootnose, or like her clanmates in Eagleclan, the fur around her neck and back would've never had settled. Their interaction wouldn't have lasted more than a few moments if she had been as hot-blooded as her dear sister.

His response to Stellarclan was...shocking for Dapplecreek. The slight fall of his face told Dappelcreek that perhaps the leader had a rather unique relationship with their ancestors. As an apprentice, she had poked and prodded all the elders about Stellarclan and how they visited the medicine cat and leader. To touch noses and share tongues with those who had passed, a dream for most, was a reality for those in that position. A prick of jealousy nipped at Dapplecreek's neck, but was quickly dismissed.

As the leader continued, Dapplecreek flattened her ears against her skull. Greencough.... the disease that stripped away her mentor and best friend, and her brother. Though the word was nothing more than that, to the she-cat, it burned her ears, as if he had just slashed his claw across her face. Happiness? Dapplecreek dared to lift her gaze to his. Perhaps the stars had other plans for her. She was unsure if she was ever intended to that treasure.

"Ah, yes. The little purple flowers do not hold a light to the memories they hold, but I can hold her my mentor's voice, feel his scent mix with their aroma," she sighed, the breath she hadn't realized she was holding slowly released. "Hmph," she snorted, "it would not be wise to turn down an invitation of a leader." Dapplecreek's tail flicked behind her. "Though I do promise to be good company to keep."

Elevating his cranium once more, and due to his height, Dapplecreek would most likely have to raise her crania again to meet his gaze as she had initially been. Alderstar gazed into her green visionaries as she fell silent, watching her facial expressions and movement. He was merely wondering what she was pondering. Dapplecreek's auditories fell flattened amongst her skull, his cheesy grin dissipating into a diminutive frown, praying to StellerClan he didn't upset her. She seemed setback for a moment when he'd mentioned Greencough, taking a deep breath from the bottom of his abdomen, lungs expanding his chest outwards. A breathy exhale departed through his nose, whiskers twitching in thought. Something terrible must've happened during this season...perhaps Greencough raked the breath from a clanmate or family member. I can't ask; it's hurting. She's still grieving. Alderstar listened to Dapplecreek's vocalizations, breaking the momentary silence between them. The illness, Greencough, implied that she had a hard time dealing with the sickness, whether it was her or someone she knew. Alderstar swallowed the lump developing in the back of his throat, apprehension rising within him as he awaited her response.

The gargantuan bachelor listened closely to her articulations, the lavender conveying a bittersweet emotion. It must've been challenging for Dapplecreek to find StellerClan's light, his frown deepening as he attended to her explanation behind the herb. "May StellerClan bring you light, Dapplecreek," He offered a little smile, finding it hard to smile wider after hearing her out. "I guarantee your mentor is constantly overseeing you; he's proud of you." Alderstar dipped his crania, delivering intense eye contact with the adversary Clanner. The color of Dapplecreek's visage was a soothing and beauteous green. Her eyes were the hue of the new spring growth, bright and soft all at once. There were flecks of strength, the kind of green that came as Greenleaf advances. "You're correct; never turn down a leader's invitation," He chuckled lightheartedly, teasing the other. Alderstar didn't understand how it was easy to talk to the other. Alderstar didn't spend much time talking to anyone, especially other mollies, as he wasn't sure he was ready to fall in love, considering as a leader, StellerClan often disagreed with a mate and future kits due to falling short on a leader's duty. "That's wonderful to hear; I don't doubt that."

"How're the lands of EagleClan? I haven't been through there much, obviously," He rolled his eyes jokingly, "CoyoteClan is astounding; I wish I could give you a tour. I love the territory, couldn't be more proud of the land CoyoteClan has claimed." Alderstar's ears flattened slightly, turning outwards as he realized he might've been going on too much.

dapplecreek, the gentle

As the leader presented his grievances, Dapplecreek's ear flicked. The words fell to her paws. She had heard the same thing over and over again, for her kits....for her late mate.....for the parents she buried before their time. Sometimes she wondered if Stellerclan had it out for her.

A lump formed in her throat. She liked to believe Quailchirp was watching over her....and that he'd probably bat her ear if he knew she was chatting with the leader of Coyoteclan. His chuckle filled the space between them again, making Dapplecreek's whiskers twitch in amusement.

Bowing her head slightly, she purred, "It is an honor to grace your presence." Dapplecreek giggled, her shoulders relaxing a bit. It had felt like it had been seasons since she was able to relax, let alone laugh. The she-cat peered curiously at the tom. What made her feel....so at peace?

"Ah, Eagleclan..." Dapplecreek began, but her voice trailed off. Was she breaking the warrior code talking about her clan and its territory to an outsider? Was the kind-looking Alderstar actually a serpent in disguise, and she the defenseless mouse? But something about his bright, yellow eyes drew Dapplecreek in.

"Eagleclan is beautiful in greenleaf. We have a vast territory filled with beautiful flowers," She mused, "fields sprawling with songbirds and life." Her tail tip flicked, smile fading. "Ah, yeah....well some of that territory was Eagleclan's at one time," Dapplecreek replied flatly. Though she wasn't much of a fighter, she did have clan loyalty. Eagleclan proudly had the largest territory at one time...until Coyoteclan and Saberclan took that from them.

Once Alderstar had demonstrated his grievances for Dapplecreek's loss, the flick of Dapplecreek's auditories informed the leader he may have worded his statements incorrectly. Dapplecreek had lost more; he assumed, more than he could speculate. Alderstar believed she may have heard similar comments to what Alderstar had said. "I apologize; you've probably heard identical grievances numerous times, more than the stars amongst Silverpelt." The tomcat shook his crania, ears flattening upon his crown. He was disappointed in himself for replicating the same remarks Dapplecreek witnessed multiple times. Though his laughter appeared to transmit some luminance into Dapplecreek's countenance as he pressed on, inducing a smile across his facade. Dapplecreek's subsequent vocalizations brightened and softened Alderstar's intense gaze, allowing his guard to fall a bit more. He shouldn't be maintaining such a genuine conversation with the opposing clanner, visage scrutinizing as the molly's shoulders loosened. Alderstar was insanely observant and intellectual when it came to the expressions and mentalities of additional individuals.

The bachelorette's glaucous visage shadowed with curiosity, inquisitiveness developing within the depths of the CoyoteClan leader. What was she thinking? "Oh c'mon, I'm honored you've graced my essence, Dapplecreek. Oh, thank StellerClan, I didn't have to squabble today." He joked, eyes rolling whimsically. Alderstar meant zero harm, as he hadn't been disguising himself in the slightest, except maybe he typically despised a conversation, despite his great sense of preserving one. This courteous behavior was more of a mask to suppress his eccentric demeanor. His clan commonly detected a confidential and unfathomable leader, except when he'd articulate with others. It was undoubtedly distinguishable. "It must be ravishing," Alderstar's warm optics stared into Dapplecreek's glistening hues, "I must admit, I do love the sound of birds, especially as I'm waking up from the night into the morning."

"If EagleClan can uphold the tranquility between the clans, I suppose I might be more obliged to share more of CoyoteClan's territory since I can't entirely control what happened during the war." Alderstar figured the EagleClanner was loyal to the clan, despite communicating with the CoyoteClan leader. His reign would be different than Tigerstar's antagonistic one. "Do you believe the war will continue anytime soon? I pray it doesn't; all the clans are still reestablishing." Alderstar expressed his concerns, somewhat unintentionally, as he swallowed thickly. The behemoth was apprehensive that he probably shouldn't speak extensively on that aspect.

dapplecreek, the gentle

Dapplecreek licked her chest, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Who was she to shove her grief onto another clan's leader? As her tongue ran down her dilute, calico fur, the she-cat snuck a peek at the leader. She watched as Alderstar shook his head, ears pinned to his skull. He, too, must've felt embarrassed. The words had become custom to say to a grieving cat, so much so, that they had lost their meaning.

Her intense gaze lightened as she realized he meant no harm. "I appreciate your kind words, Alderstar," she finally spoke, her lips hanging onto each syllable of the tom's name. Quailchirp's voice entered her mind, snickering. Are you batting your eyes....to another clan's leader? The thought made Dapplecreek's tail fur fluff slightly.

Dapplecreek's thoughts were quickly dispelled as Alderstar changed the subject. "A messy thing to eat, but lovely to admire," she purred. "But I could listen to them all day. If I were as mighty as Stellarclan, I'd make it Newleaf all year round." Dapplecreek blushed again, wrapping her tail tightly around her paws. There she went again, sounding like a starry-eyed kit!

Peering up at the leader, Dapplecreek's maw formed a frown. "I'm unsure," she finally answers. "Rapidstar....had certainly made trouble for us. But I believe our newest leader will strive for peace, rather than bloodshed." Dapplecreek's mouth formed the words, but something in her stomach told the she-cat that Eagleclan wouldn't stand for being pushed around much longer. Now that Rapidstar was long gone, a new era had begun. "Hadn't the war been enough for all the clans? We've hardly had a chance to rebuild our ranks." She meowed, absentmindedly. Though she hadn't lost any kin to the fighting, she knew many of her clanmates were still healing.

"Do you have any kits of your own?" Dapplecreek asked, the question making her eyes widen. Had she truly asked that question out loud? Though her fur seemed to turn scarlet, the she-cat kept her gaze. Why did she feel so interested in the answer?
