PERSONALITY
Personality (Overall): the boy is alarmingly intelligent, although not many are aware of it. altruistic and observant, sparrowpaw strives to understand his clanmates and how they think, hyperaware of their actions in his want to make friends or help others. he takes note of odd things or habits that others would wave off or not pick up on in the first place, and stores them away for later.
he keeps to himself, preferring to watch from the sidelines, although his silence should not be mistaken for shyness. he is maybe a bit awkward in his bluntness and dislike for small talk and pleasantries, but sparrowpaw does like other cats. he is, if anything, an excellent companion if you'd like to focus or relax in peace and quiet. he'll let you talk his ear off too, and he'll listen, even if he doesn't look it.
one of sparrowpaw's most prominent traits is his control over his emotions, and it will only grow stronger still the older he gets. developed later in kithood and further into his apprenticeship, his negative emotions (and sometimes positive ones too) are hardly ever displayed. he will not complain when things don't go his way, and tends to not reveal pain--whether it be physical or emotional--because it would inconvenience another, or because he believed he would be ignored. the boy is eerily level-headed when faced with chaos and panic.
sparrowpaw is a never-ending list of...odd. he likes to collect things, whether they be flowers, a cool, colored pebble, or maybe a dead bug's shiny wings found in the caves. his nest is decorated with them, although he is rather stingy about showing them off. his various trips outside the camp with his mentor usually have him bringing back something new, stuffed into his mouth alongside an herb.

BACKSTORY
Character's Backstory: sparrowkit was born alongside reedkit, and he was tiny, fittingly named after the small bird because of it. his parents were worried he wasn't going to make it, but luck always did seem to be on his side. his sister, reedkit, however, was not so lucky. she fell ill when they were both still small, but not so small that sparrowkit did not register her warmth leaving his side and not coming back. grief destroyed his mother, and his father grew distant from the both of them, pushing himself further into his warrior duties.
sparrowkit started acting out as he grew older, straying from the nursery and sometimes to the cave openings of the camp, vying for his mother's attention. she focused on the loss of one kit instead of the life the other still had, and sparrowkit matured rather quickly because of it. he spent lots of his time confined to the nursery as punishment, sitting at the entrance of the cave and peering out at the bustle of camp life that went on around him; without him.
he did not have friends when he was small, alienated from his clanmates because of his mother's insistence in keeping him locked away in the nursery and his own newfound hesitance in making them. that, sparrowkit decided, was fine. he kept himself busy with other things, playing with bugs, bird feathers fallen from prey, and watching other cats interact and converse from a distance.
it was fine.
sparrowkit had no interest in being a medicine cat at first. he'd wanted to be a warrior, because that's what all the other kits and older apprentices wanted, and when his own ceremony arrived, that's what he worked towards. he wanted to make his parents proud. it did not last long.
the other young cats made fun of him. he was not a skilled fighter, his long legs tripping himself up and paws yet too big for his body getting in the way. they teased him about his feelings, telling him to "grow up! warriors don't cry!"
sparrowpaw would learn to become very good at hiding his emotions.
his mother and a few of the others fell ill a moon after his ceremony, and when the sickness claimed her life not long after, sparrowpaw decided being a warrior was not what he really wanted. he'd lost his sister and now his mother, and even if his clanmates didn't like him, he wanted to prevent it from happening to them, too.
the current medicine cat did not have an apprentice, and sparrowpaw went privately to speak with his leader to see about getting the role for himself, voice quiet, but determined.
APPEARANCE
Description: a tall, white-furred tom with amber eyes and splotchy markings in varying shades of brown

Strengths: quick and quiet on his feet ; excellent tree climber, although he is more adept at leaping from branch to branch than hauling himself up the trunk ; good eyesight
Overall Appearance: sparrowpaw does not live up to his namesake. the boy is tall, all angles and sharp turns and long legs, body built for stealth and speed rather than brawls and physical strength. his fur is short and white, and splashed with oddly placed markings colored in a variety of browns and greys. his eyes are a light amber in color, calculating, sharp, and observant.
the boy's gracefulness and silent footsteps are rather surprising, given the length of his legs. he is finally growing into his large paws. each step is careful, deliberate, and sparrowpaw is always mindful not to squash small herbs and flowers underfoot that others wouldn't think twice about. he is a little less concerned about sneaking up behind others, a terrible habit that he has not tried to work on in even the slightest.
although usually rather quiet, when he does decide to grace someone with his voice in conversation, it is soft, but not reserved or unsure.
