HAZELTHORN "come away from the darkness, little one" PHYSICAL DETAILS ________________________________ Description: A beautiful tan and brown tabby with large white markings on his underbelly, chest, legs and lower face. He also has piercing golden-green eyes. Build: Height: 13.5in | Weight: 17lbs | Length: 35in Hazelthorn is a large, broad tom with a bulky form but slightly effemenite, lithe movements despite his size. Scars: None Yet Disabilities: None yet. Weaknesses: He has long fur and a large form, which make it harder on him in Greenleaf. He also can't swim well due to his fur dragging him down. Strengths: He's bulky and has a strong form, making him a bit of a tank in battle situations. He also has a silver tongue, so he tries to talk his way out of things. He's diplomatic, and a great strategist, knowing where to go and when to pull out in battle. He's also a very sociable cat, and while he worries about his public image, he isn't afraid to get dirty when protecting his clanmates and friends/family. He is very family oriented, doing anything in his power to make their every wish come true. The tom tends to be very expressive and talkative, but has a very good poker face when he needs one. He's quick-witted, honest, and open with his feelings, sometimes being much to intense for some of his clanmates. And though he is very outspoken and gentle with clanmates, he knows when and where to use his size and bulk as a weapon or threat, having a very scary expression at times. He's overprotective to the point of being overbearing at times with those he cares a signifigant amount about, but can be very reliable as well, and tends to drop what it is he's doing when he's needed for anything else by friends or family. Hazelthorn can be teasing and sarcastic at times, which tends to get a bit infuriating to some, but he usually always means well. He doesn't tolerate bullies, and tends to give them a taste of their own medicine when he catches them. This can get kind of scary at times, especially considering he's one of the largest cats in Coyoteclan, being smaller than maybe only Alderstar. He holda a fierce grudge, and will chase those who have wronged him to the ends of the Earth, even killing if necessary. He isn't, however, ambitious. Hazelthorn has no need for power of any kind, choosing to simply exist for his clan to his best possible abilities, giving his all for his clan and family. He had three siblings; Ficklekit, Redkit and Trilliumkit, and as his parents only litter, they were all doted on heavily. This made them naive to the world to a point, because their mother was heavy-handed about keeping them in the nursery and not letting them outside until apprenticehood, but they never resented her for it. After another molly's son got stolen by an owl, they understood her worries as they got older. Hazelkit was a quiet kit, though, content to just lay around the nursery with his mother and listen to her and the other queens gossip and tell stories. He didn't want to pretend to be leader or deputy, or fight off imaginary foxes, it just wasn't for him. The quiet, serene reality of the nursery was plenty for the large, fluffy tomkit. APPRENTICEHOOD When Hazelkit was made an apprentice and given the name Hazelpaw, he already towered over almost everyone else in the apprentice den. His mentor was a young, ambitious tom named Riptide, who couldn't understand the gentle giant very well. Hazelpaw expressed early on that he didn't wish to be the best in the clan, just the best he could possibbly be, and was very aware of his own shortcomings, which tended to aggrivate Riptide. Hazelpaw was smart, and quick on the uptake, but never tried to be first or win anything, tending to observe quietly with a smile on his face when the apprentices were competing for something. His spot in the middle was his comfort, and though his mentor was sure he could be close to the top, Riptide's pushing wouldn't ever amount to anything. Hazelpaw did, however, train on his own. While he didn't want the clan to dote on him and praise him, he hadn't been lying when he told his mentor he wanted to be the best he could possibly be. He learned to use his size to his advantage, and though he never got to be very agile, his strength was close to unmatched. He tended to have to be careful when sparring with other apprentices and warriors alike, since strikes with his heavy white paws tended to wound easily, which pleased him. He never wanted to hurt a clanmate, but the fact that he could protect his clan well made the tom happy with himself. WARRIORHOOD He was made a warrior at 13 moons, when Riptide admitted he had nothing left to teach the blooming tom. Hazelpaw was quick witted and smart, and good at hiding all of it. He was given the name Hazelthorn for his battle prowess, and settled nicely into the middle ranks of the warriors' den as he had the apprentices' den. The war had already been going on by the time he was made a warrior, but he had never been keen on joining more than he needed to, only fighting when instructed and maintaining his middle-ground for moons. That is-until his father Yewmarrow's lifeless body was dragged into camp by his howling mother, the tom having been killed ina surprise ambush by a rogue Eagleclan's leader had brought in. The mourning giant joined into the war more feverently after that, often leading succesful attacks and proving to be a cunning strategist when it came to battle tactics. He personally took out several rogues during this time, looking for his father's murderer, whom his traumatized mother called "Fang." Tigerstar made the young warrior the deputy on a stormy night, his battle tactics and battles won being crucial to their standing in the war. But Hazelthorn frowned, planning to step down as soon as the war was over. There were plenty of other, better and more wise warriors to lead, and the tom didn't want the position. Alderstone was one of the ones he had in mind, and planned, on the horrifying occasion of Tigerstar's death, to hand the position to the younger tom should something happen to their leader. He was young, but he was ambitious and looked out for the clan, and Hazelthorn had no need for the position. As luck would grace the tom, not a few days later, another, named Gorseleap, would make a larger contribution to the war efforts, and express more leadership qualities, allowing Hazelthron to voluntarily step down from being the deputy in favor of Gorseleap taking the position. Hazelthorn's only mission at this point was to find and kill Fang. Still a well-known warrior among his clanmates when it came to battle, Hazelthorn had no shortage of clanmates to accompany him on his missions. He hunted the rogues like prey, mercilessly killing them as he found them, saving his clanmates and Saberclanners alike, though not for them usually. Finally, he got information on the tom, and pulled his grieving siblings out with him to avenge his father. Fang was close to to the Eagleclan camp, just south in a plain with three others. But they never saw Hazelthorn and his family coming. He lead his siblings, Ficklepelt, Reddeer, and Trilliumstep, closer, and launched the attack, taking the group out and incapacitating Fang. This was a horrifying side of Hazelthorn that his siblings didn't recognize, but they welcomed the ruthlessness towards their father's killer. Hazelthorn sent Trilliumstep back to camp to bring their mother, and dragged the barely living Fang back to their territory, leaving behind the carnage of the battle. On the border, they met their frantic mother, to whom Hazelthorn tossed the half-dead Fang to. Trilliumstep followed close behind, moving to stand behind her eldest brother and watch their mother. Hazelthorn had presented his father's dying murderer, and allowed his mother to say her piece, hoping to heal her trauma even a little bit. That night, Galebreeze cried as she realized her kits were grown now, able to fend for themselves and protect her and the clan. She embraced them once Fang's last breath left his body and Hazelthorn had tossed the limp corpse haphazardly into the Green River, and took them back to camp. Hazelthorn deflated after that night, exhausted of fighting a war that didn't have an obvious end, and while he helped his clan, he wasn't nearly as driven as he had been before Fang was killed. Thankfully, the war ended soon after, with Rapidstar's murder, Ivystar's mysterious death and Tigerstar's and Gorseleap's untimely accident. Hazelthorn welcomed the uneasy ceasefire, being one of the ones to step forward and support Alderstone being leader.
